The Carabineros Historical Museum of Chile (MHC) is the official institutional body for the protection of the historical heritage of Carabineros. It contains various collections related to the history of the police function in Chile, therefore, from the arrival of Pedro de Valdivia to the Mapocho Valley to the present day. The MHC was created as a Museum and Historical Archive of Carabineros de Chile, through General Order 189 of March 17, 1958, by General Director Jorge Ardiles Galdames, with the purpose of preserving documents and objects related to the various police systems or similar organizations that have existed in the country. It was officially inaugurated on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Carabineros de Chile, on April 29, 1977. After working in different units, in 1992 he finally moved to the School of Carabineros of General Carlos Ibáñez del Campo, in the old house used by the Campus address, where it works until today. In 2007, and thanks to the Law of Cultural Donations, a profound modification was made, both physical and methodological in the Museum, aimed at modernizing the museography and disseminating the history of the evolution of the police function in the country. The building was remodeled by architect Gonzalo Mardones Viviani, retaining its original structure. During this process, the interior spaces were adapted to fulfill the functions of a museum. Then, it was painted completely white, to connect it with the architectural concept of the Carabineros Cultural Center of Chile.

Never thought, that I would visit police history museum one day, but this one is really interesting and well maintained with loads of historical exponates (ammunition, firearms, cars). Can definitely recommend, if you are around and have 30 minutes to spare.

Pequeño y excelente museo. Bien vale oa.pena recorrerlo. Lo recomiendo.
Destaco su variedad y calidad de antecedentes historicos que son didacticamente muy bien presentados. Demostrando historicamente la importancia y cercania con la ciudadania y en el desarrollo del pais. En dia del patrimonio el museo abrió sus puertas para recibir a miles de visitantes, ansiosos por conocer un pedazo de su historia.
