Nice efficient car ferry ship take you from Pargua (Chile mainland) across the strait to the north port of Chacao on the Chiloe Island. The slow going (so it's a very smooth ride) ferry ride is about 40 minutes. There are many ferries running between the two ports so there is almost no waiting.

Fantastic service that is very easy to use. It has everything you need, the ride isn't very long and the price is reasonable.

If it's not raining, be sure to get out to take some great pictures. Expensive, though, but there is no other option.

Actually, there are two ferry lines running here: the red/white line and the yellow line. We were on both coming and going and both have the right idea. The little snack shops are handy in a cold day but, on the yellow line, closed early. No bad - you're only on the boat for 20 minutes. Fast, efficient boarding and transport between the two lines so no waiting. Strong clean boats, well maintained.
